The Northern Echo is planning to commemorate the end of the First World War by publishing a special Remembrance Sunday edition – and we need the help of the region’s photographers.

We want a very special image to grace the front cover of this historic edition – and we’d love you to take it. It needs to capture the essence of remembrance and it needs to be a captivating image.

We are particularly thinking of a war memorial or sculpture caught in an amazing light or at a certain time of day, or time of year – several war memorials have banks of trees behind them that look stunning in the autumn sun as the leaves change colour.

It could be a poignant detail from a memorial or headstone or service – ideally located within The Northern Echo’s area – or it could be a panorama of, say, Tommy at Seaham Harbour with the sun rising behind him.

How to take your photo so it fits...

Brilliant portrait pictures are very welcome, but we would love to receive entries that would enable us to wrap the image around the front and back pages of the paper.

To give you an idea of how a wrap works, here is one we ran with a picture of the first ever Ashes ball ever bowled at the Riverside, in Chester-le-Street.

The Northern Echo: First World War Photo Competition

Notice the front page is on the right, and the back page on the left so if your image has a main focal point, such as Tommy at Seaham Harbour, remember to position it on the right.

The focal point of your picture also needs space to breathe - our editor will need room for a headline and other text.

* The winner will receive a framed copy of The Northern Echo newspaper with their image on the front and £50 Love2shop vouchers, plus they will have the unique glory of it being used on this historic publication.
